The port is strategically located to cater to the hinterland cargo as well as transshipment cargo from mainline vessels.

Development Plan

The Rewas Port is planned to be a deep drafted multi purpose port in the Mumbai harbour. The Rewas Port project envisages development of 10 berths in the initial phase planned exclusively in the inter tidal zone. The berths planned are

  • Container cargo.
  • Dry Bulk cargo.
  • General cargo
  • Liquid cargo
  • Automobile cargo.

The approach to the port will be through an independent channel with depth dredged to 14.5m below CD (Phase1). The depth of water along side the berths will be maintained at 16m below CD. These facilities will permit safe maneuvering of 150000 DWT bulk carriers as well as 9100 TEU container vessels with tidal window. In the final phase the channel will be dredged up to 21m below CD commensurate with the Suez Canal.

Hinterland Connectivity

The port will be well connected to the National Highway NH 17 at Wadkhal, through a dedicated 4 lane road. Rail bound cargo will be evacuated through dedicated double line rail link connecting the port and Hamrapur rail head over the Central Railway. This rail link will subsequently feed the Dedicated Freight Corridor.

Back-up Infrastructure

The planning of the port is focused to ensure least turn around time of the ships calling at the port. Sufficient back-up facilities in terms of yards, CFS, transit sheds has been planned. The terminals will be equipped with the state-of -the-art cargo handling equipments for speedy loading/ unloading of the cargo.
